From 15th July to 16th July, Firefly Night Race - a fundraising cycling expedition by passionate cyclists from all walks of life - will mark its second edition by covering a 250km route in one night. This time, over the challenging terrains of East Malaysia, Sabah, the team will cycle along the coastal roads, starting from Kota Kinabalu and cycle their way into the annual Borneo Music Festival at the Tip of Borneo.
The Firefly Night Race - inspired by the insects’ goal of devoting every night of their short adult lives to the art of survival in how they live, love, and die – continue its belief in providing talented individuals an opportunity to realise their dreams and to have that light in them shared with the rest of the world.
Driven by a passionate and single-minded focus, the team hopes to continue to garner the support of individuals, and corporations who share the same aspirations, to pledge monies.
The proceeds will go towards Sing Out Asia and the Business Times Budding Artists Fund. Sing Out Asia is a non-profit organisation that aims to bring together the youth of Asia to realise themselves and to champion meaningful and important causes for a better Asia and the world. Business Times Budding Artists Fund encourages the development of creativity amongst the young and provides opportunities for disadvantaged children to discover hidden artistic talent and to develop their self-worth.
Firefly Night Race I was successfully completed in January 2010 by nine passionate cyclists who challenged a 1,000km route over 100 hours. The team cycled from Singapore, through Mersing, Kuantan, Kuala Terengganu, Kota Bharu, and into the border town of Thailand – Sungai Golok.
Public can contribute to the cause by pledging monies through the official website, www.fireflynightrace.com
